NISYROS The volcanic experience!!!!

Daily departures from Kardamena heading directly to Nisyros island. The cruise takes about 1 hour 10 minutes and you will disembark at the port of Mandraki, the capital of the beautiful volcanic island Nisyros.

Directly from the port you will go by bus to the volcano, exactly to the caldera of Stefano and there you will have the unique oportunity to go down to the bottom of the dormant volcano. You will smell sulphur everywhere and also you can see boiling mud and yellow sulphur crystals on many minerals. The bus ride takes about 20  minutes and free time in caldera is 40-45 minutes.

After the visit of the caldera you will return back to the port of Mandraki, a lovely town which is waiting for you to enjoy it with all your senses. Just taste typical soumada syrup made from almonds, or canelada syrup made of cinnamon and a very unusual tomato marmelade.

Walk through many twisted narrow streets decorated with stone mosaics up to the Monastery of Virgin Mary of the Cave. You have to climb up 150 steps, but the bonus is breathtaking, it‘s a wonderful view on the roofs of Mandraki, nearby islands and the volcanic mountains. Afterwards you will be able to rest in a typical restaurant either on the main square under huge ficus trees or by the sea and enjoy your lunch.

Daily departures from Kardamena.

The boat leaves Nisyros at 15:30, so you get back to Kardamena around 16:40.
