The Niotis taverna, in the middle of Kefalos village, just a few meters from the church, keeps memories alive from the good old times.
This charming taverna, lovingly run by the Niotis family, offers a truly authentic Greek experience. At the heart of it all is grandmother Evgenia, who prepares every dish in the small kitchen using fresh vegetables, eggs, and chickens from the family’s own garden. Her cooking is traditional, simple, and full of flavour – just like it was generations ago.
Grandfather Spiros, with help from their children and grandchildren, welcomes guests and serves the food with warmth and pride. What makes the place truly special is its unique layout: the taverna is split across both sides of a narrow street. On one side is the kitchen and a small terrace, perfect for enjoying a glass of ouzo and a few plates of meze in the afternoon sun. A few steps across the street – and a couple more up – you’ll find another terrace with four or five tables where dinner is served under the stars.
Behind this terrace, a room has been restored to look exactly like a Greek home in Kefalos would have looked over a hundred years ago. This touch of living history is what gives the place its name: The Traditional House. It’s more than a place to eat – it’s a place to feel, taste, and remember the spirit of old Kefalos.
